Tata Motors to serve notice on WB government
The High Court of Calcutta has refused to hear the ex-parte Tata Motor’s petition where it has challenged the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act, 2011. It also allows the company to serve notice to the West Bengal government.
The decision was taken up by Justice Saumitra Pal who while talking about the petition filed by Tata directed the present counsel of Samaraditya Pal to serve notice to the government and said that the matter would be taken up soon. When Samaraditya Pal said that they wanted to file petition ex-parte, the court refused to entertain the plea totally.
The act has scrapped any previous deal that was signed between the Left Front and Tata Motors and asked for the land to be given back to what seems unwilling farmers. The act was passed by the Assembly on June 14 and saw a walkout from the Opposition Left parties. But it was finally passed with the help of voice vote.
Tata Motors had, on the other hand, challenged the government over the measures that it had followed to reclaim the land that had been acquired by it for making up of a car factory.
