Stocks Try to Extend Recent Upturn
July 18th, 2011
18-Jul-11 15:00 ET Dow -110.52 at 12369.28, Nasdaq -31.76 at 2758.19, S&P -12.34 at 1303.82
Stocks have resumed their upturn. The effort has them at their best level since morning as they head into the final hour of trade. There still isn’t a single sector in positive territory, though.
Participation has been moderate for most of the session. As such, only a half billion shares have traded hands on the NYSE so far. The lack of participation comes in part because of the sluggish pace of summer, when many are on vacation, but also because of uncertainty surrounding the sovereign debt of Europe.
