Honda Fit Offers Game-Changing Price For Hybrids

Last week we learned that the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Transportation proposed new fuel economy standards for cars and light trucks.

It could get as high as 62 mpg by 2025!

Of course, it didn’t take long for the cockroaches to come out of the woodwork and complain that such a high fuel economy standard would hurt car manufacturers and cause higher sticker prices for consumers. We heard this when hybrids were first introduced in the U.S., and we heard this the first time former President Bush approached the issue of increasing fuel economy standards.

I wonder why they never pipe up when we talk about how all these hybrids on the road help us displace foreign oil!

In any event, there’s dozens of new hybrid and electric vehicles getting ready to come to market. In the US, you’re well aware of the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf. These are already proving to be game-changers. Especially with Nissan already being maxed out on pre-orders.

And we found out today that Honda will now be selling its hybrid version of the popular Fit subcompact for 1.59 million yen ($19,310) in Japan. This makes the Honda Fit the cheapest hybrid car sold in that country.

Honda has already received pre-orders for about 10,000. The car will be in Europe next year, and Honda is considering bringing the vehicle to the United States, too.

We’ll keep you posted. . .
