Coal supply to power plants in Angul paralysed
Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) in Orissa’s Angul district is hit by transportation stir as private truckers went on strike demanding improvement in their contract arrangement.
Nirmal Mishra, sub-collector, Angul told that more than 5,000 truckers have taken to protest since Friday night asking for improved conditions including provident fund facilities and to engage of more locals. MCL’s Director(Personnel) S C Padhi will be holding discussion with the district collector and others in an attempt to put things in order by resolving the issue through talks.
However temporary arrangements have been made to different coal consuming units in the region for coal supply, despite majority of the truck operators going on strike.
Coal supplies to National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) at Kaniha, Talcher Thermal Power Station (TTPS) and Natioal Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO) and seven major open cast mines such as Lingaraj, Ananta, Jagannath, Bhartpur, Balaram, Hingula and Bhubaneswari are strongly hit by the strike which still on the go. Movement of around 24 rakes of coal has been come to a halt that was supposed to be transported to different locations of the country from Talcher railway station, sources said.
