AMC, Home of Mad Men and Breaking Bad goes Public

AMC Networks Inc. (NASDAQ:AMCX) shares are down 9.5% today, trading just under $40.  The Walking Dead network began trading on a when-issued basis on June 17th at $35.03 a share.

In addition to the AMC channel, AMC Networks owns IFC and IFC Films, WE and the Sundance Channel.

Back to AMC — “Now, as a separate public company, AMC Networks has the opportunity to further showcase each of its programming services and provide value to investors, distributors and advertisers,” the company’s chief executive, Josh Sapan, said in a statement.

Cablevision spun off the company, effective on Thursday, giving one Class A share of AMC for every four Cablevision Class A shares. Cablevision is controlled by the Dolan family through the company’s Class B shares; each of those shareholders gets a Class B share of AMC.
